The department for labour shapes labour market policy in the federal state of Bremen.
The department for labour is responsible for fundamental issues relating to labour market policy, as well as questions of labour, disability and social security law. The Office for Social Security and Integration (AVIB) forms part of the department for labour. The department for labour manages the implementation of the European Social Fund within the federal state of Bremen. It also finances projects helping people into work, as well as education, advice and vocational training projects, through the employment policy action programme (‘Beschäftigungspolitisches Aktionsprogramm’ or BAP).
At communal level, the department for labour – together with the Senator for Social Affairs, Young People, Women’s Affairs, Integration and Sports, the Senator for Finance, and the German Federal Employment Agency – operates Bremen City Council’s job centre, with the department for labour assuming overall responsibility for the municipal aspects.
